The First Artists – National Geographic Magazine

For more than two years Chip Walter travelled to locations in Africa and Europe for the National Geographic Society to track down the roots of our creativity. During those trips he was lucky enough to see first hand the earliest artwork and symbolism of the human race. Read about his journey to try and unmask where and when and why we became the creative species we are in his feature story in the January edition of National Geographic Magazine, on newsstands now. Also available on your iPad. Or online.

His latest book Last Ape Standing (2014’s most popular book on human evolution) is also available at a bookstore near you, or online in hardback, paperback, e-book or audio editions. Get the book that the New York Times called “a lively journey,” and The New Yorker called “engaging” and “fascinating.” You’ll be amazed at what you learn about yourself by learning about how we came to be the remarkable creatures we are.
